Tarte Dressed to the Nines LipSurgence Set, Holiday 2015, Swatches + Review

Tarte Holiday 2015
Tarte Dressed to the Nines LipSurgence Lip Creme Gift Set, Holiday 2015

Tarte has released their new Holiday 2015 sets. I wasn't super excited about the palettes, but this Dressed to the Nines set had my name written all over it. I loved last year's set so much that I bought two. Ahem, I still haven't opened my backup. After reading Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I resisted the urge to throw everything away, but I am consciously trying to buy only what I'll use. I vowed to wear these 9 lip cremes for 9 days in a row. These are definitely autumnal colors. I've been coordinating outfits around them, and it's been forcing me to get into the fall spirit (despite the heat).

These are packaged in sets of three so that you can give them as gifts.

Tarte describes the new limited edition shades as follows;

stunning (pinky nude)
jazzy (poppy)
luscious (raspberry)
plush (cool pink)
striking (mauve)
glamorous (rose berry)
luring (nude rose)
pizzazz (crimson)
ritzy (golden coral)

I disagree with several of these descriptions. Maybe it's my lips, but several of these pull almost orange. In fact, Striking is a terracotta orange on me. Ritzy is a golden coral because it has fine gold shimmer/glitter in it. I highly recommend that you try these on before you buy them.

I'm still waiting to fall in love with this set. Some of the colors are a bit drying, and I find that I have to try to make these work. Maybe by the end of my 9 days I'll be in love, but at this time I'm not exactly gearing up to buy a backup.

Am I pleased with this purchase? Yes. I wouldn't have chosen many of these colors, but they're forcing me to come up with creative makeup looks and matching outfits. Would I recommend buying this without trying the colors? No.

I purchased this online from Macy's, but it should be in stores tomorrow. I wouldn't buy without trying these on.

The trio includes 3 shades (does anyone else miss the 4 pans?): Midnight, Timber Wolf, Evergreen

Midnight-a deep black that can be effortlessly blended into the crease or swept cross the lash line as a liner.

Timber Wolf-inspired by the magnificent coats of the timber wolves, the warm pewter infused with soft gold enhances all eye colors. Can be swept across the lid or worn as a crease shade.

Evergreen-a cool, blackened green infused with a hint of mesmerizing jade pearl. Can be swept across the lid or worn as a liner.

This isn't a look I would normally go for. It's a bit more dramatic, but it's very flattering.
My favorites are the Black Forest eye liner and Ella cheek shade. The trio is beautiful (and who can resist the wolves), but it's something I'll be saving for evenings. Patience is a beautiful nude with enough pink to prevent it from being scary on me.

Overall, I love it. I'm probably going to purchase Moonlight soon...very soon.

I purchased Patience from SpaceNK and the rest from Nordstrom, but the collection is available everywhere Chantecaille is sold.

Chantecaille Gardens of Marrakech Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo, Summer 2015, Swatches + Review

So, summer is ending, and this has been sitting in my makeup drawer. I've mentioned in a previous post that I just haven't been using as much makeup this summer. I've been exercising quite a bit, and it's been very warm here. The two combined have just zapped my desire to wear a lot of makeup. However, my laziness toward cosmetics aside, this is quite nice.

Chantecaille's Garden of Marrkech reminds me of the Chanel's collection from last year. Swatches here. It's not exact, but it's close enough for me.

Lantern-golden bronze
Crocus-dusty lavender with a hint of gold

This isn't as glittery as the first two Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo's. That being said, if you don't enjoy glittery shadow, maybe avoid this and the other Duos. If you don't mind a little sparkle, try this out!

Side note: I believe Chantecaille is releasing another Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo for Holiday 2015. I was fortunate enough to go to the counter when a trainer was there demonstrating the Fall 2015 and Holiday 2015 products. It's a cooler taupe and brown duo. Be warned, it was very sparkly. I'm excited about it, but then again if left to my own devices (and if it was socially acceptable) I would be wearing glitter somewhere every single day.

Gardens of Marrakech retails for $58. I purchased this from Nordstrom, but it's now available pretty much everywhere Chantecaille is sold.

Daily Skin Care
  • Dermalogica Cleansing Oil
  • Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser
  • Dermalogica Acne Clearing Wash (chin chin has recently had an identity crisis)
  • Dermalogica Active Moist
  • Kiss My Face sunblock-I've recently had very bad luck with several "made for sensitive skin" sunblocks. I went back to this old favorite and haven't had a problem since.
Evening Skin Care
  • Tatcha Eye Cream and Face cream-I used these for several months. I wasn't overly impressed, and I was excited when I was done and could begin using La Mer again. I found that the Tatcha products were just too much for my skin. I would go to bed feeling greasy and wake up still feeling as if the cream hadn't completely sunk in. These would be best for drier complexions.
  • Tatcha Lip Balm (I'm just waiting for this to run out. It has an almost pickled smell that I don't care for....I also can't speak to the "amazing" moisturizing properties that I've read about. It's decent, but I won't be repurchasing.)
  • Chantecaille Bamboo and Hibiscus Exfoliating cream-This works really well, and it's very gentle. I use this once a week.
  • Dermalogica cleansers-I'm completely devoted to the cleansing oil and the Ultra Calming wash.
  • Chantecaille Compact Makeup in Shell
  • Chantecaille Le Camouflage Stylo in shade 1
  • Makeup Forever Smoky Lash
I've also been using the Chantecaille Spring 2015 products to create a modern day Aurora/Sleeping Beauty look. I watched a tutorial by Kandee Johnson that recreated the look and realized that Chantecaille's spring colors worked perfectly for the look. However, I'm not doing this on a daily basis...most days it's been foundation, concealer, and mascara. I have a lot of new products, but I just haven't been very excited about them. I've held off on reviews because I'm pretty sure it's me and not the products. However, I am excited about Lipstick Queen's Frog Prince. I've had it for months, but it turns a berry shade on me that's really only appropriate for Fall/Winter.

In other news...I'm now completely obsessed with Dr. Who! I started watching Season 8, and I completely fell in love. I'm now watching the whole series from the beginning. I'm also really loving Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel. A friend recommended the book and actually gave it to me 6 years ago, but as this same person also once recommended the movie "Caligula" (Please, don't watch it. It's awful, and even worse, it's unforgettable.) I smiled politely, put it on my book shelf, and never bothered to read it. Such a mistake! The show is wonderful, and I'm excited to read the book, finally.

Tarte Just Cheeky Cheek Stain Set, Swatches + Review

Tarte Just Cheeky Cheek Stain Set
Tarte Just Cheeky Cheek Stain Set review
cute packaging
I purchased Tarte's Just Cheeky Cheek Stain Set for the holidays from QVC, but I recently saw it in the sale section on Sephora.

It's adorable. that it's cheaper I think it's a good deal.

I originally thought I would give these away, but they were too cute for me to part with. The colors are great. I do have to admit that I wear these a lot less than I thought I would, but honestly, I'm wearing a lot less makeup these days. When I do, I usually wear a powder foundation (because I'm lazy), and these are not meant to be applied over powder. However, if you like Tarte's cheek stains, these are adorable, and the colors are fantastic!

I apologize. I swatched these months ago and have completely forgotten in which order they are swatched. However, since you get the entire set...and I can't imagine gifting these at this point (unless you celebrate Christmas in July), you can play around with the colors on your own.

This set is on sale at Sephora for $26. These are miniatures, but I like that you get 4 colors for less than the price of one full size cheek stain.

Chantecaille Moroccan Rose Lip Chic, Summer 2015, Swatches + Review

Chantecaille Moroccan Rose lip chic review
Chantecaille lip chic in Moroccan Rose, Summer 2015
Chantecaille's released two new lip chic lipsticks for Summer 2015, Moroccan Rose (warm, bright pink) and Mandarin (orange). I was hesitant to order Mandarin (even though I'm currently trying hard not to order Bobbi Brown's Hot Orange Lip Stick), but Moroccan Rose is right up my alley.

Moroccan Rose is very bright in the tube, but a medium warm pink on the lips. It reminds me of Amour but with no peach. It's bright enough to be perfect for summer, but it's not so bright that I'd be embarrassed to wear it while running errands (ahem...Hot Orange).

Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Celebrated, Swatches + Review

Tarte Celebrated Amazonian Clay Blush review
Tarte Celebrated Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush
Tarte released Celebrated as part of their 15 year anniversary collection for Spring 2015. Celebrated is a warm, pink/nude color that reminds me of Cinderella (the soft pink/nude colors of the animated film).

I was originally going to pass on this, but after trying it on I couldn't stop thinking about it. I'm glad I purchased it. I don't get 12 hours of wear, but it does last most of the day. I love this color; it's very flattering if you're fair. However, I do have to reserve this for days when I have very little red in my skin. On days when my skin gets extra pink, I find that this just enhances the ruddiness. I'm not sure why...t might just be because I've had some new rosacea triggers (boo), and any blush would have fallen prey to the red face curse. However, if you have pink or redness in your skin, I would try this on before buying, or buy it from a place with a good return policy to be on the safe side.

I swatched it heavily on top, and I swatched it lighter below. However, even in the light swatch I had to build it up. It shows up much more easily on the skin. My skin just seems to grab the color and glow. I've been playing with this for over a month, and I'm quite pleased with it. I don't think this would show up on darker skin tones. Celebrated is a new permanent shade; although the cute confetti packaging will be going away soon.

I purchased this at my local Macy's for $26. However, if you're buying sight unseen I would purchase it from Sephora or Ulta  (not affiliate links-just helpful) so that you can return it if it doesn't work for you.
